10. Komponen Kamus
Kamus merupakan referensi yang memuat daftar kata atau gabungan kata dengan berbagai makna. Kamus di dalamnya terdapat komponen- komponen yang saling berkaitan untuk membentuk kesatuan utuh. Komponen tersebut diantaranya, daftar isi, kata pengantar, pendahuluan, dan lain sebagainya. Bergenholtz dan Trap (1995) mengelompokkan komponen kamus menjadi sepuluh, yakni daftar isi, kata pengantar, pendahuluan, petunjuk penggunaan, seleksi lema, gramatikal kamus, daftar kata, indeks, apendiks, informasi label.
Sigh dalam jurnalnya yang berjudul “Dictionary and Its Structure” mengemukakan bahwa kamus memiliki sebelas komponen, yaitu sebagai berikut:
1. Selection of cover desigh;
2. Production of the title page with the information regarding the editor, publication anda publisher;
3. Table of contents;
4. It ususlly includes an introduction or preface, explaning the innovations and characteristics of the edition concerned;
5. Introduction to the dictionary outlining and the editorial principles followed in the work;
6. General information about the language;
7. If it is a dialect dictionary it should contain the map of the dialect to locate the area;
8. Information about the convetion made and followed in the dictionary;
9. Provide the list of abbreviations used in compilation of the dictionary;
10. If posibble there should be brief note on the orthography because dictionary will be a powerful influence on standardizing the orthograhy;
11. The other information in front matter might be an explation of the transciption system used.
Sepebelas komponen yang dikemukakan Sigh dimulai dari pembuatan sampul, halaman judul, daftar isi, kata pengantar, pendahuluan, informasi tentang bahasa, petunjuk penggunaan, daftar singkatan, catatan singkat tentang ortografi, dan informasi di halam depan terkait isi kamus. Kesebelas komponen tersebut saling terkait untuk mendukung kelengkapan kamus.
Berdasarkan kedua pendapat di atas, penulis menyimpulkan komponen kamus terdiri dari sampul kamus, daftar isi, kata pengantar, pendahuluan, petunjuk penggunaan, seleksi lema, gramatikal kamus, daftar kata, indeks, apendiks, informasi label. Sepuluh komponen tersebut akan dijelaskan di dalam sub bab berikut.
